How do I pay?

We use Stripe, one of the largest platforms for secure online payments. You pay directly on our site at https://golf4u.se/en/pricing with your Visa, Mastercard or American Express and your account is registered immediately. If the card payment doesn't go through, the most common reason is that your card isn't open for 'all online card purchases'. Contact your bank or log in to your online banking.

You can also pay for the course via Swish by buying a gift card to yourself at https://golf4u.se/en/gift-card. This option requires manual handling and takes up to 48 hours to register your account.

Question 3

What is a Golf ID and where do I find it?

The Golf ID works like a 'personal number' within Swedish golf and is used to make administration easier. A Golf ID is created automatically when you are registered in GIT (golf's IT system). While taking your course at Golf4u we can help you create your Golf ID (via 'My page' on Golf4u). You'll get your Golf ID sent to your email automatically after we register you. Depending on your settings it may land in your spam folder. You can have a Golf ID without having a Green Card.

If you already have a Golf ID but need help finding it, contact the club you intend to become a member of and they can help you further.

What if I already have a Golf ID?

If you already have a Golf ID we can look it up in the golf IT system (GIT) using your personal identity number. You won't get a new Golf ID — you'll keep your existing one.

Question 5

Why does 'My Golf' say 'inactive' and what does it mean?

Accepted Answer

'Inactive' in this case refers to membership in a golf club and has nothing to do with the Green Card or Golf4u. It means you cannot book tee times or adjust your handicap. To become 'active' you need to join a golf club. On 'My Golf' it may say that Bryttsätter Golfklubb is your home club. This is because Golf4u operates through Bryttsätter Golfklubb, which you administratively belong to until you optionally join another club. Note: to book tee times via My Golf you need to be both an active member and have a Green Card.

Why am I not receiving any emails?

Depending on your email provider (e.g. @hotmail.com or @gmail.com), emails from Golf4u and the Swedish Golf Federation may end up in your spam folder. If you feel you haven't received an email that should have reached you, check your spam folder and mark those emails as not spam so future messages land in your inbox.

Why can't I adjust my handicap myself via 'My Golf'?

To adjust your handicap via My Golf you need to have an active Green Card. You also need an active membership in a golf club. If you've joined a golf club and still can't adjust your handicap you need to contact that club directly — the most common reason is that the club forgot to mark you as an active member.

What is a Green Card?

A Green Card = hcp 54, i.e. you have a Golf ID registered with a starting handicap of 54 (or lower). The Green Card is golf's equivalent of a driver's licence. Together with an active membership in a golf club, you can pay a green fee to play on most Swedish golf courses. The Green Card requirements exist so that you feel safe and comfortable on the course in terms of gameplay, etiquette and rules. It's also a guarantee that every player meets the basic requirements for safe, enjoyable and fair golf. You can take the Green Card through traditional in-person training or digitally via Golf4u.se. A Green Card is valid for life, as long as you don't become inactive in golf.

What are the criteria for the Green Card and how quickly can I get it?

Once you've passed our 12 quizzes and completed the course, you're ready for the two mandatory steps for obtaining the Green Card at any club in Sweden: a playing test and a final theoretical quiz from the Swedish Golf Federation (SGF).

If you already have some golf knowledge and are motivated, the process can be fast — many complete it within 24 hours. Others need more time. It depends on how easily you meet the requirements. Golf4u helps you focus your practice time on the exact areas you need to work on.

Is the Green Card valid everywhere?

Yes, there is only one type of Green Card and it is valid everywhere. Individual clubs may however have their own restrictions regarding, for example, playing handicap for green-fee play. You can take the Green Card through traditional in-person training or digitally via Golf4u.se — either way gives you the same rights. A Green Card is valid for life, as long as you don't become inactive in golf.

What are slope and playing handicap?

In order to count points in golf, the course you play on must be slope-rated. A slope-rated course has been assessed by the Swedish Golf Federation and comes with a slope table bearing the federation's logo. The course is rated based on difficulty — length, hazards, layout and so on.

The slope table gives you a playing handicap on the course from the chosen tee. You calculate your points based on your playing handicap. If you don't know your playing handicap, you can't count points. We have several videos that explain slope and how scoring works in golf.

What's the difference between handicap and playing handicap?

Handicap (hcp), also called exact handicap, describes a player's skill level. At the Green Card playing test you don't formally have a handicap yet and start at exact hcp 54. The most common form of play in golf is stableford, where you play individually and count points per hole. To count points you need to know your playing handicap because that's what scoring is based on. In short, your exact handicap is converted to a playing handicap via the slope table. That's why the course being slope-rated is a prerequisite for counting points.

Is it hard to get a Green Card?

This is hard to answer with a simple yes or no — every individual has different conditions. In practice almost everyone who is motivated and interested gets their Green Card. Most people benefit from guidance and their own practice. Golf4u helps you know exactly what to focus on in your practice so you can reach the Green Card in a flexible, pedagogical and time-efficient way. If you've never held a golf club before, we recommend complementing Golf4u with a few in-person lessons with a coach.

Is it expensive to get a Green Card?

There are many misconceptions that golf is expensive. A traditional in-person course with a fixed schedule can cost several thousand kronor. Our course to get you started in golf costs 1595 SEK and lets you take it whenever it suits you.

Question 16

When should I become a Golf4u customer?

Accepted Answer

You can join Golf4u whenever you want. The quizzes and the Swedish Golf Federation's final theory quiz can be taken year-round, while the playing test requires a playable golf course. Depending on where you are geographically, conditions vary. Our unique pedagogy is based on you only practising what you can't yet do relative to the Green Card requirements. It's therefore wise to start the quizzes as soon as possible so you can focus your practice on exactly what you need.

Is a golf club membership included or required?

Membership in a golf club is normally not included via Golf4u, and no, you don't need to be a member of a golf club to become a Golf4u customer — regardless of whether you want to take the Green Card or already have it.

However, to practically 'use' your Green Card and be able to play different courses you also need an active membership in a golf club (e.g. full member or green-fee member). Membership can be arranged via Bryttsätter Golfklubb or directly with the golf club that suits you.

Can I get a lower starting handicap than 54 after my playing test?

Once you've met the Green Card criteria you'll be registered with a Green Card. Your starting handicap is based on your playing test result and is calculated automatically by the federation's system where the test is recorded. Because of this your starting handicap can vary quite a bit. You can find more detailed information about the playing test here.

How do the quizzes work?

The Golf4u course contains 12 quizzes that act as diagnostic tests to determine what you already know and what you need to learn more about. You can take them as many times as you want, at your own pace. When you get every answer right on a quiz, it's registered as passed. Once you've passed all 12 quizzes, you're ready for the Swedish Golf Federation's final theory quiz. As long as you're a Golf4u customer you can always go back and revise by taking the quizzes again.

How does the wellness benefit work?

Accepted Answer

Since 1 January 2018 golf has been an approved wellness activity in Sweden, which means you can use your wellness benefit towards our digital Green Card course. If you buy our digital course directly via our website you automatically get a receipt to submit to your employer for reimbursement if they aren't connected to a wellness portal.

The Swedish Tax Agency's guidelines apply, and because the course is based on you mainly practising physical exercise (through play and practical drills) it qualifies for the wellness benefit. Your employer must follow the guidelines and approve it as an activity.

Is Golf4u connected to any wellness portals?

Golf4u is currently connected to Benify/Benifex, Epassi, Benefits (Söderberg & Partners) and Wellnet. If your employer is connected to any of these, you make your purchase directly via the respective wellness portal. We continuously review our partnerships with wellness portals.
