Detailed information about the playing test based on the current national regulations. This applies to everyone taking their Green Card in Sweden.

Where is the playing test conducted?

It is conducted at a golf club with a "real" course that is slope-rated and allows play for those who are in training but do not yet have a Green Card. A slope-rated course means it has been course-rated and has a current slope table containing the golf federation's logo.

IMPORTANT! Make sure to find out well in advance what applies for the playing test at the specific golf club/course where you wish to take the test. Each club sets the rules for who may play on their course, as well as other conditions/costs for booking, green fees, and play.

How is the playing test conducted and how many points do I need?

A playing test can be taken as many times as you want. You play a slope-rated course from any tee and must achieve at least 18 points on 9 holes. A Green Card playing test is always over 9 holes. You calculate your points based on your playing handicap (strokes received) which you find by looking at the slope table for the current course/tee based on an exact handicap of 54. Your playing handicap can vary greatly depending on the slope.

With whom is the playing test done?

You take your playing test with a playing partner who has an active Swedish Golf ID (= is an active member of a Swedish club) and has a handicap of 36 or lower. Often you can take the test with any friend who meets these criteria. Sometimes the club may have designated mentors with whom the test can/should be conducted.

How is the Green Card activated?

New from May 6, 2025

It is now only the golf club (or golf company) where the playing test was conducted that can approve/activate the Green Card. You must also have completed all theoretical parts before the playing test can be conducted/approved. After a passed playing test (at least 18 points), you can register the result via Min Golf, but regardless, the golf club (or golf company) where the test was conducted must approve and activate the Green Card. Based on your result (number of points) on the playing test, you get a "start handicap" of 54 or lower.

Playing test for children, up to the calendar year the child turns 12

The playing test can be conducted in 3 different ways (choose what suits you/the course best):

  1. 1Play according to the same criteria as adults.
  2. 2The child plays nine holes from the 150-meter marker on par 4 and par 5 holes, and from the forward tee on par 3 holes. All holes count as par 3 and the child gets three extra strokes per hole. You must achieve at least 18 points.
  3. 3Conduct the playing test on a so-called 100-course (where holes are between 40 and 100 meters) and complete 9 holes in a maximum of 45 strokes (points are not counted in this option).

For those aged 13 or older, options 2 and 3 above can be used for practice purposes before taking the playing test if you have not yet met the adult playing requirement.
